A canvas frame made with a thicker or deeper outer stretcher-bar profile may require additional internal reinforcement as its dimensions increase. GWD1635 is a 16 x 35mm kiln-dried pine Supporting Bar installed inside the wooden stretcher frame when the complete structure requires extra support. It is an internal component, not an outer Stretcher Bar, and it is not required for every frame.
GWD1635 is intended for canvas frames using thicker or deeper outer Stretcher Bar profiles when additional internal support is required. The Supporting Bar should be selected together with the finished frame dimensions, outer Stretcher Bar profile, canvas specification, stretching tension, required support layout and final application. GWD1635 belongs to Gowin’s Supporting Bars & Bespoke Stretcher Bar Profiles range.

Supporting Bar Features
16 x 35mm Internal Profile
GWD1635 has a 16mm thickness and 35mm width. It is positioned inside the outer frame to reinforce the internal structure without serving as the outer member over which the canvas is stretched.
Cut-to-Length Supply
The Supporting Bar can be cut to the required internal span. Final length and end details should be confirmed from the complete frame dimensions, outer profile and selected support layout.
Pine Wood Production
GWD1635 is made from kiln-dried pine and supplied with a smooth-sanded surface. Finger-jointed construction can be used where applicable to support length availability and consistent wood utilization.
Recommended Use for Thick-Profile Canvas Frames
- Canvas frames using a thicker or deeper outer Stretcher Bar profile
- Wider frame structures where additional internal reinforcement needs to be evaluated
- Repeat frame production with a confirmed internal span and Supporting Bar layout
GWD1635 provides an internal support option for thicker-profile canvas frame structures. The need for reinforcement depends on the complete frame specification.
How GWD1635 Works Inside the Stretcher Frame
GWD1635 is installed between the outer Stretcher Bars to reduce the unsupported span inside the frame. It does not replace the outer bars and does not contact the wrapped canvas in the same way as the outer frame profile.
The connection method and any required end machining should be confirmed with the intended frame system during sampling.
Supporting Bar Quantity and Layout
One frame does not automatically equal one Supporting Bar. Depending on the complete structure, the frame may use:
- One Supporting Bar: a single internal support across the frame.
- Parallel Supporting Bars: two or more supports running in the same direction.
- Three or more Supporting Bars: multiple supports positioned according to the required internal structure.
- Cross-brace arrangement: Supporting Bars arranged in crossing directions.
A Supporting Bar is the internal wooden component. A cross-brace arrangement is one possible layout made with Supporting Bars; the two terms do not describe different materials.
As a general starting point, internal support should normally be considered when the long side reaches approximately 60cm. This does not mean that every frame over 60cm needs exactly one Supporting Bar. The appropriate configuration may be one support, two or more parallel supports, a cross-brace arrangement or multiple supports, depending on the complete frame structure.
Supporting Bar Selection
Confirm the Supporting Bar together with the complete frame specification rather than selecting it from one dimension alone.
| Selection Check | Why It Matters |
|---|---|
| Finished frame width and height | Determines the internal spans and where reinforcement needs to be evaluated. |
| Outer Stretcher Bar profile | Affects the available internal connection space and required end details. |
| Canvas specification | Provides the fabric and stretching information needed to evaluate the complete frame structure. |
| Stretching tension | Changes the structural demand placed on the assembled frame. |
| Required internal support | Helps determine the number, direction and position of the Supporting Bars. |
| Final application | Connects the frame structure to its actual production and display requirements. |

GWD1435 and GWD1635 should be selected with the outer frame and intended support layout. The separate GWD1635 for GW3835G page applies specifically to the GW3835G Deep Profile system and should not be merged with this product. Ordering and Customization
Please provide the finished frame sizes, outer Stretcher Bar model or profile, canvas specification, quantity of each frame size and the Supporting Bar layout if it is already specified. These details allow the internal span, cut length, quantity and connection requirements to be reviewed together.
If you do not have a fixed layout, the Supporting Bar configuration can be discussed according to the complete frame requirement. Supporting Bars are normally specified together with the complete Stretcher Bar or canvas-frame requirement, and the required quantity follows the frame sizes, number of frames and selected support configuration.
Cut-to-length supply, connection details and OEM or private-label packing can be confirmed according to the order.
Wood, Production and Quality Information
GWD1635 uses the same general pine-wood and production basis as Gowin’s outer Stretcher Bars. Pine provides stable supply and practical length availability for repeat frame production. The wood is kiln-dried before machining, and finger-jointed construction is used where applicable.
During production, we check profile dimensions, straightness, surface sanding, cut length and confirmed machining details. The standard pine grade may show slight sound knots unless a different wood-grade requirement is agreed before production. Large loose knots, cracks or unstable defects are not treated as acceptable sound knots.
Packing and Export Supply
Export packing can be arranged according to the supporting-bar length, order structure and transport method. OEM and private-label packing are available, with packing and labeling requirements confirmed according to the order.
EXW is available. FOB can be discussed according to the order and shipment arrangement, while DDP or door-to-door delivery can be discussed according to the destination and order conditions.
Sample and Frame Confirmation
Samples are available. Where practical, test GWD1635 together with the intended outer Stretcher Bars and actual canvas. Check the 16 x 35mm profile, surface, internal fit, Supporting Bar position, selected connection and complete assembled-frame structure before bulk production.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is GWD1635 an outer Stretcher Bar?
No. GWD1635 is installed inside the wooden frame when additional internal support is required. The outer Stretcher Bars form the perimeter over which the canvas is stretched.
What are the GWD1635 profile dimensions?
GWD1635 measures 16 x 35mm, equivalent to 1.6 x 3.5cm.
When should internal support be considered?
As a general starting point, internal support should normally be considered when the long side reaches approximately 60cm. Final selection depends on the full frame dimensions, outer profile, canvas specification, stretching tension, support requirement and application.
How many Supporting Bars does one frame need?
There is no fixed one-per-frame rule. Depending on the structure, a frame may use one Supporting Bar, two or more parallel Supporting Bars, three or more supports, or a cross-brace arrangement.
Is this the same product as GWD1635 for GW3835G?
No. Both products list a 16 x 35mm profile, but the other GWD1635 is specifically presented for the GW3835G Deep Profile frame system. Confirm the intended outer frame before ordering.
